Grade or slope the area so it slopes away from any building foundations, creating a slope of about an inch per four feet. This will ensure adequate drainage. Use a hand tamper to compact the soil, then create edging with brick, plastic barriers, or decorative metal edging.

Choose the right size rock for your project. For instance, a ⅜” is ideal for walkways. Use a wheelbarrow to transport your rock and a rake to spread it evenly. Aim for around 2-3 inches deep. When you’re done, spray the area with a hose to remove any dust and reveal the rock’s beautiful brown, tan, and gold hues.
